The Invercargill City Council governs the territorial authority of Invercargill. It is made up of an elected mayor and 12 additional councillors.
The Council introduced its current logo in February 2009. It takes its theme from the public artwork 'A Blade of Grass in Strength' (1971) by Patricia I. Wilson, installed outside the Council Administration Building in Esk Street.
