Description
A re-visioning of the classic pose to represent Queen Victoria. She carries the orb and sceptre, and wears the crown. Largely fabricated in welded plate, and finished in zinc galvanising, the figure is very authorative even militant.
The work was donated by The Friends of Hunter Inc. who campaigned to save the Hunter Building where the piece is now housed. Designed in 1904 and built in stages up to 1923, the predominantly brick building was declared an earthquake risk in 1974. After strengthening and refitting the building was re-opended in 1993.
