Description
In the early 1990s it was decided to adapt the old Wellington Central Library building (1939) to accomodate the new City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi. To control natural light in the the gallery spaces it was decided that the two-story array of windows facing Te Ngākau Civic Square would need to be blocked. Culbert and Hōtere were commissioned to produce 'Fault' which lances across the façade as if joined across these blacked out windows.
Commissioned by Wellington City Council Arts Bonus Scheme with funds from Scollay Holdings Ltd. and additional support from the QEII Arts Council.
A publication by Bill Culbert and Ralph Hotere. Fault. (Wellington City Council 1994.) documents this work.
