Description

Large figurative work of the Virgin Mary towering above Paraparaumu constructed using a wooden frame surfaced with scrim and concrete. Wayfinding stations of the cross are distributed along the path to the foot of the statue. Two feature tile designs with one signed by Roestenburg. A short walking track from Tongariro Street leads to the statue on the hill top where there are views of Paraparaumu and Kapiti Island.

Statue was commissioned by Saint Patrick's parish priest, Father J.S.Dunn in 1958 to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes.
