A plaque installed with the work reads:
BIRDS OF PEACE
NGA MANU RANGIMAIRE
To commemorate the end of World War II, fifty years on, Tasman District commissioned the Birds of Peace sculpture.
It marks our region’s commitment to peace.
Created in Tākaka marble by Golden Bay sculptor, Lorraine Polglase, the Birds of Peace were unveiled by Tasman District Mayor, Kerry Marshall, on the evening of 24 April 1998, preceding ANZAC Day 1998.
