Description

Part of a set of 3 tōtara carvings created in the same year: 'Guardian'; 'Pare - Waikato, Raukawa, Wairere'; and 'Matauranga.'

In this piece the Waikato River is personified, with Raukawa guarding one side and Wairere the other. It represents the permanence of the Waikato Region and the Waikato River and shows the value and importance of education and knowledge for those who come to the University. The work was unveiled 3 September 1993.
