Description
The commissioning of the sculpture ‘Pacific Angel’ was facilitated by Dame Suzie Moncrieff coinciding with the World of Wearablearts event (WOW) moving to Nelson’s Trafalgar Center sometime in the mid 80’s.
From the Tasman District Council:
A facelift for an angel
A large sculpture of a reclining angel in flowing robes, which was moved to Golden Bay last year, has undergone a much-needed facelift.
Pacific Angel used to recline in splendour outside the café at the old Nelson Airport terminal. When the old airport terminal began its transformation into the modern facility it is today, 16 sculptures had to be rehomed.
We adopted Pacific Angel and found a new home for the large Oamaru stone artwork in Golden Bay, and in keeping with its air travel connections, relocated it to the Tākaka Aerodrome. But after many years exposed to the elements, the angel was looking a little worse for wear.
The sculpture’s creator, Bodhi Vincent came to Golden Bay recently and spent time giving Pacific Angel a much needed once over and tidy up. The artwork has been restored to its former glory and now in its laid-back way welcomes visitors to Tākaka Aerodrome.
