Bodhi Vincent is an artist based in Raumati South on Aotearoa New Zealand’s Kāpiti Coast. A life-long art maker, he has worked with many different media and styles, with a particular preference for painting and sculpture.
Vincent studied at the Wellington School of Design, graduating in 1972, and has since worked in a variety of creative roles including set design, art direction, illustration and in the film sector. In recent decades, his three dimensional works have taken prominence in his practice, with steel, concrete and stonework being his main media of choice. He has been a consistent participant in sculpture symposia around the country, particularly in the Wellington region, and at the biennial Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Symposia which have been held in New Plymouth since 2008, and has sold many works through these events.
Vincent has traveled widely to undertake artistic research, often drawing and working en route. This has seen him painting, teaching, and exhibiting in India where he was part of a creative community that designed and built a bamboo house, a three-storied studio for mask workshops, and painting spaces for students from around the world. Other projects included mural painting in Japan and stone carving in Thailand.
Vincent maintains a drawing practice, with life drawing being a particular focus supported by attending life drawing sessions at the Wellington Drawing School. His work has been exhibited locally and abroad, and continues to evolve along themes encompassing beauty, humanity and ecology. Vincent works from his studio in Raumati South, where painting and drawing are emerging now as his main preoccupations.
