Sir Henry Kelliher

Sir Henry Kelliher was a New Zealand businessman, brewer, publisher, managing director, art patron and credit reformer.

Born in Central Otago, Kelliher moved to the Wairarapa when he was 17. After serving in WWI he tried farming, before switching to investment in hotels and breweries. In late 1920s he invested in Morton Coutts Brewing, which became the foundation of the Dominion Breweries Company.

Kelliher was involved in a range of philanthropic causes including Ladies Mirror (1930, magazine), the Kelliher Art Prize, and the Kelliher Economic Prize for schools.

Kelliher was appointed a Knight Bachelor, for public and philanthropic services in 1963 and created as a Commander of the Order of St John in 1956.
