Dorothea Turner

A celebrated woolcraft practitioner and classicist Dorothea Turner, graduated in 1982 from Auckland University with a PhD entitled Fibrecraft in Homer as an index of Status and Character.

"Her 1972 biography of Jane Mander is the standard work on the New Zealand novelist. Dr Turner was a music and radio critic, and a member of the 1973 Adam Committee which recommended separation of the NZBC's radio and television wings. Her husband, Sir Alexander Turner, a president of the Court of Appeal, died in 1993. Dorothea Turner was sister of Man Alone author John Mulgan."

A promoter of textile crafts Turner assisted Joan Calvert, Guy Ngan and Jean Ngan, to produce 'Forest in the Sun' (1977) wall hanging for the Executive Wing (Beehive) of Parliament.
