Bing Dawe

b. 1952

After graduating from the University of Canterbury, School of Fine Arts in 1976, Bing Dawe began a professional art practice exhibiting works in galleries throughout New Zealand. From 1989 Dawe also taught art at Christchurch Polytechnic (now Ara Institute of Canterbury) in the position of Programme Co-ordinator of Craft Design. In 1999 he received the Wallace Art Award and in 2017, the year of his retirement, Dawe completed the gateway 'Diverting. Defending. Birds over the Waimakiriri,' to the North Green on the polytechnic's Christchurch campus.
