Bill Devoy

After his school years at Te Awamutu College, Bill Devoy completed a traditional, 5-year signwriting apprenticeship. Following this he established Devoy Signs & Graphics in Te Awamutu, in 1977. “Billʼs strengths lay in his ability to produce high quality signage, especially in the incorporation of pictorial and artwork in his signage.”

"The company continues as a family business proud to offer “not just computer graphics, but art. Some of Billʼs hand-drawn artwork can be seen just off Alexandra Street, the main street running through Te Awamutu.”

Bill doesn’t just paint. From 2008 onward he also took up hard stone carving and Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society. Bill writes: “Working in all types of hard stone, my works contain a mix of realism and contemporary. Drawing inspiration from my love of nature, particularly birds, being a focus of many of my works. Also intrigued by the human form and spirituality as shown in my portrait work.”
