New Zealand China Clays

According to the Companies Register 'New Zealand China Clays' began operations at the Matauri Bay quarry in 1955. In 1969 it was incorporated into Ceramco and continued to operate as such until 2000, when Ceramco sold their shareholding to "Mircal, a subsidiary of French industrial mineral company Imerys". Imerys continue to operate the quarry at Matauri Bay, extracting the rare halloysite clay.

New Zealand China Clays was a funder of the 'Rainbow Warrior Memorial' by Chris Booth erected in Matauri Bay in 1990.
