War Memorial Library

The War Memorial Library Te Pātaka Kōrero o Te Tatau ki te Māramatanga is located centrally in Lower Hutt City.

The building is one of four that make up the Lower Hutt Civic Centre. The others being: the Town Hall, Horticultural Hall and Administration Building, the Little Theatre, and Saint James Church. These buildings were planned in relation to Riddiford Park and surrounding gardens following Garden City urban design principles.

Initiated by Mayor John William Andrews (1933-19457) and completed by Mayor Percy Dowse (1950 - 1970) the complex was immediately recognised by the NZIA with design awards, and commended by the visiting Queen Elizabeth.

The complex was given Heritage New Zealand listing in 2003.
