Description

A plaque installed on the wall beneath the work reads:

"To mark the Centenary of the University of Otago Medical School in 1975 the University of Otago Graduates Association Commissioned MARTÉ SZIRMAY to Create this Sculpture"

Constructed in folded and alodine sheet aluminium, this work continues the "Modernist style" Marté Szirmay had explored during a Frances Hodgkins Fellow in 1971-2.

"'Sculpture' was moved from its original ground level position in 2006. Changes of this sort can alter the way the work is perceived in unexpected ways."
