Description
Llew Summers created these two powerful, graceful nude figures wrestling to represent New Zealand’s strong and passionate sporting culture. Although made in 1984, it was not installed in public until 1990.
When installed it caused a bit of a stir due to the nudity of the figures in a public place. But this quickly died down and the sculpture has become an integral piece of art in the Gardens.
Cast in red Terrazzo, a mixture of coloured cement and marble chips, the piece was purchased by the Christchurch City Council in 1990.
