Description
This work represents several forms and symbols of knowledge, light, writing, a Pacific Island navigation chart and a computer circuit. An information panel installed with the work reads:
“The work symbolises Tane separating Earth and Sky, thus bringing the light of knowledge into the darkness of ignorance. The figure on the right represents knowledge kept in the form of a Pacific Island navigation chart. The steel sheet behind Tane represents the preservation of knowledge through writing - in this case the Treaty of Waitangi. The figure on the left symbolises the preservation and communication of knowledge by electronic medium.”
