Percy Higginbottom lived in Whanganui and the Kapiti Coast. A founding member of the Rotary Club in Whanganui, Higginbottom owned a chain of furniture stores and had interests in flax growing (1930s).
He was the patron of the Percy Higginbottom Trust, a philanthropic charity he established on his retirement in 1961. They helped fund various cultural institutions including the Higginbottom Fountain and renovation of the Whanganui Museum in the 1960s.
