George Baloghy

b. 1950

George Baloghy was born in Budapest, Hungary. His family migrated to Aotearoa in 1957 as refugees from the attempted Hungarian uprising against Soviet Russian occupation in 1956.

He graduated from the University of Auckland, Elam School of Fine Arts, with a BFA in 1976, and presented his first solo exhibition at Barry Lett Galleries just 2 years later. Since that time Baloghy has had thirty-two solo art exhibitions in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Sydney and Melbourne. Also numerous group Art Exhibitions in New Zealand and overseas.

He has been awarded two scholarships by the Queen Elizabeth Arts Council. Almost every major public Art Museum in New Zealand has Baloghy artwork/s in its collection.

Baloghy lives and works in Hahei, a small coastal village about 180Km from Auckland.
