David Waterman

David Waterman was born and educated in Nelson. He painted his first mural with Martin Bailey in 1976 as a High School Student, then went onto study at the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design for three years. After graduating he established the company 'Environmental Art' with a fellow student, and the pair went on to design and create numerous murals throughout New Zealand over the following decade. In 1980 the New Zealand Students Arts Council sponsored the pair to travel through New Zealand's tertiary education institutes painting murals. This was followed by commissions for a variety of sites that included car factories and restaurant ceilings.

Waterman is now a full-time painter based in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
