Austin Brasell

b. 1914d. 1985

Austin Brasell was a wood carver working in Whanganui. He established a workshop in Gonville in the 1940s which became Sovereign Woodworkers, and subsequently Timber Arts New Zealand. It produced items which would be familiar to many including native wood-sample rulers, his first commercial product. The business closed in 2020.
