Kap Pothan

b. 1929

"Kap Pothan, born in 1929, is a stone and model crafter based in Whangarei.

He was a member of the Northland Society for Arts Society, housed in Reyburn House, when in 1986 he was commissioned to create a sculpture for the grounds.

Pothan sources marble and granite from New Zealand as well as sandstone and marble from Australia. Using differently layered strata and using the stratas to follow the shapes he is creating. 'Lottie' is a good example of this approach.

His works are expressions of mood through human and abstract forms, carved into the finest quality stone, they are represented in a number of public collections, including Government House, Wellington."
