Barbara Ward

b. 1953

Barbara Ward lives in Auckland.

She began stone sculpting in the 1980s gradually moving from soap stone to Mt Somers Limestone. She became involved with the Stone Sculpture Symposium at Western Springs. Through this event, and exhibitions at the Aberhart North Gallery, Ward maintained a consistent stone sculpture practice through the late 1980s and 90s. She has described her practice as "untutored" (including forging her own tools) and realist: "My work all stems from my own life. Day to day human responses..."
